Over the past two days, there have been mixed signals given by the delegates during preparatory meetings on whether the oil price issue would be included in the declaration.

When asked if Iran was not keen to discuss the issue of rising oil prices during the D8 meeting, he said at a press conference “Iran did not express this categorically in the meeting.”

“If there is any view to exclude this in such a meeting, it would really be unrealistic. I am happy to report that Iran did not say anything of that sort,” he said.

Members of the D8 have been discussing the issue extensively from rising food prices to spiraling costs of energy, Rais said.

D8 comprises eight developing Muslim nations — Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey, with an objective to improve the position of Muslim developing countries in the global world economy through the diversification of their economies by creating new opportunities via increased trade relations.
