Bodies of Indian victims in Kabul to arrive Tuesday

New Delhi : The bodies of the four Indians, including two diplomats, killed in the horrific terror strike on the Indian mission in Kabul Monday, will be flown in here Tuesday, an official said.

“We had despatched an Il-76 (transport aircraft) to bring the bodies back this (Monday) evening. However, due to bad weather, the aircraft could not take off from Kabul,” an Indian Air Force (IAF) spokesman said here late Monday.

“The aircraft will now return tomorrow (Tuesday),” the spokesman added.

The two diplomats, defence attaché Brigadier Ravi Datt Mehta and press counsellor V. Venkateswara Rao, were killed when a suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the embassy gate.

Two men of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) who were on guard duty at the embassy were also killed in the blast, which claimed 44 lives and injured over a hundred others.
