Washington : Joe Wilson, co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, has condemned the terrorist attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul that killed over 40 people.
“This type of violence against innocent civilians is yet another sign of the ruthless enemy that threatens peace and stability, not only in Afghanistan but around the world,” Wilson, a Democratic member of the House of Representatives, said Monday.
A suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden car into the heavily fortified Indian embassy’s gates in Kabul Monday morning, killing four Indian nationals and some 40 Afghans.
“My deepest sympathies go out to the families of the Afghani and Indian citizens who lost their lives. The United States and its allies in Afghanistan, India, and around the world must stand together to defeat terrorists at home and abroad,” Wilson said.
The White House and the US State Department too condemned the attack.
Describing the suicide bombing as “terrible news”, State Department spokesman Sean Mccormack said: “We have offered any assistance, not only to Afghan but also to Indian authorities, in terms of follow-up, determining who’s responsible for these attacks.”
White House national security spokesman Gordon Johndroe, in a statement issued in Toyako, Japan, said: “The US stands with the people of Afghanistan as well as India, as we face this common enemy.”
