Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) : Madhav Arts College of Ujjain, which hit the headlines after the murder of Prof H.S. Sabharwal two years ago, is once again in the news for the wrong reason. Principal L.N. Verma was assaulted by the kin of a college employee who had attempted suicide over the non payment of his salary.

“Vishal, brother of college peon Nilesh, barged into the conference room of the college Monday and bashed the principal while he was talking to newsmen. The principal fell from his chair and remained unconscious for few minutes,” the police said Tuesday.

The incident has once again exposed the lack of security at Madhav College in view of repeated attacks on the college staff.

The peon Nilesh, according to the police, had earlier in the day slit his hand when the principal didn’t allow him to draw his salary that was due for two months. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Later Nilesh’s relatives, who had gathered at the hospital, marched into the college, the police said.

Reporters and news photographers present on the occasion rushed to help the principal.

While the peon’s family members accused Verma of harassing and victimising Nilesh, he said that the peon’s salary was withheld because he was not coming to work for two months and would be drunk whenever he did come to work.

“His salary has been stopped as per the rules and we have complete record of everything. Nilesh was also served show-cause notices in this regard,” said Verma.

“We have registered cases against Nilesh and Vishal who have been arrested,” Ujjain’s additional police superintendent Vinit Khanna told IANS.
