The two were working on a construction project in Islam Qala district of the western Herat province. They were picked by armed men on Monday, said Police Chief Rauf Ahmadi.

The district where the two Turkish construction workers were kidnapped is close to the Afghan-Iranian border.

Neither Taliban militants nor other group commented on the kidnapping.

Kidnapping foreigners has become an attractive business among Afghan armed groups to get huge money as ransom.

The trend worsened after the kidnapping of an Italian engineer and 23 Korean citizens and payment of a huge sum for their safe release.
