Agartala : At least one person was killed and three others injured in landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains in Tripura Tuesday.
“Samra (Bhill) Munda, 45, died on the spot when a mound of earth slipped on his house early Tuesday, while he was sleeping with his family,” an official said.
Three others were injured in the landslide that took place in Belonia town, 115 km from here, on the border with Bangladesh.
On Monday, 19-year-old Shyamal Biswas died on the spot at Jirania, 20 km east of here, after he lost control of his two-wheeler with heavy rains lashing the region.
The local meteorological station forecast a moderate to heavy rainfall over the next two days due to upper air cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. Average rainfall across Tripura was about 200 mm since Monday morning, Met. Office said.
Lightning and thunder accompanied by heavy rains have lashed Tripura the past two days, damaging standing crops and houses, uprooting electric poles and destroying telephone lines.
