“We agreed to meet in October this year with great expectations to bring about tangible results,” Gyaltsen told a press conference in the European Parliament in Brussels Tuesday evening.

He noted that the seventh round of discussion held on 1-2 July between the two sides did not achieve any concrete results and the Chinese side even did not agree to issue a joint statement .

Gyaltsen stressed that Dalai Lamaa is seeking a peacel solution and not separation or independence of Tibet.

He voiced his deep gratitude that India has been hosting the Dalai Lama and over 100,000 Tibetan refugees.

“The Indian people and the government have welcomed the Tibetan people with great generosity and allowed Tibetan settlements to preserve their own culture,” said Gyaltsen.

He said that the actual situation is such that the true form of Buddhism today is found in India than in Tibet.

On the political front, Gyaltsen noted that the Indian government has been “very cautious” on the Tibetan issue expressing his understanding for this position due to New Delhi’s ties with Beijing.

He called for a more pro-active role of India to resolve the long simmering issue through dialogue.

On his part, Thomas Mann, President of the Tibet Intergroup of the European Parliament, called on EU leaders to boycott the opening ceremony of the Olympic games to be held in Beijing in August.
