Russia for Stronger Intl Standing

Moscow : Russian President Dmitri Medvedev called on the diplomatic community to use the country’s accumulated potential to favor internal strength and consolidate international standing.

Speaking before Russian ambassadors and representatives of multilateral bodies, Medvedev identified as a strategic line the strengthening of relations with China, India, Brazil, Mexico, Suth Africa and countries in Asia-Pacific.

He said Russia must also strengthen links with countries in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

It is necessary to use effectively different multilateral channels of interaction to solve common tasks based on shared interests, said Medvedev in his first meeting with local diplomatic community.

In this regard, he said the best example is cooperation within the BRIC Group (Brazil, Russia, India and China).

He voiced again Moscow disagreement with plans to deploy elements from the US missile shield in East Europe and reiterated that Russia will be forced to react accordingly, and “European and US partners have been warned against it.”
