Seoul : South Korean President Lee Myung-bakon Wednesday demanded the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to allow South Korean experts to conduct joint investigation with Pyongyang into the death of a South Korean woman at DPRK’s Mount Geumgang.
Lee said at a weekly Cabinet meeting that the South Korean tours of DPRK’s Mount Geumgang will not be resumed unless the questions surrounding the July 11 shooting of a South Korean woman are fully answered through an inter-Korean probe.
“The government’s top priority is to safeguard the people and their lives. The tour of Mount Geumgang should not be resumed unless an inter-Korean team completes a thorough probe into the shooting incident and North Korea offers a complete guarantee for the safety of tourists,” Lee was quoted by his spokesman as saying.
Park Wang-ja, 53, was shot dead Friday morning at a restricted military zone near DPRK’s Mount Geumgang.
The South Korean government had called for joint investigations into the incident but Pyongyang rejected the request early this week.
