Coalition soldier, several militants killed in Afghanistan

KabulA soldier of the US-led coalition troops died of wounds he had suffered during a roadside bomb blast in Helmand province of Afghanistan. A statement from the coalition forces’ Bagram base said the soldier died this (Monday) morning. His identity and nationality were not released. Earlier in the day, the NATO-ISAF had also announced the death of one of its soldiers in fighting in the southeastern province of Khost.

The coalition troops also claimed killing several militants in an air strike in the western Farah province. The statement said the operation was conducted on Sunday. No civilians were killed or injured, said the statement. Meanwhile, an Afghan official said six civilians were killed when insurgents attack a fuel tanker near the country’s eastern province of Laghman. Abdul Wakil Atak, spokesman for Laghman governor, said the vehicle was targeted with a rocket-propelled-grenade. He said two of the dead were driver and conductor while the other four were passengers of a mini van which caught fire. Taliban militants did not claim responsibility for the attack.
