Mexico City : At least 22 people have been killed in two highway accidents in northern Mexico, EFE news agency reported Tuesday citing officials and media reports.
In the first accident, a car collided head-on with a bus on a highway curve in Coahuila province Sunday, killing nine people, the state prosecutor’s office said.
Among the dead were five children. All were from the same family.
The car, which was overloaded, was heading in the direction of Ciudad Acuña from a party in the city of Piedras Negras, which is located near the US border.
The second accident occurred in Sonora province Sunday, in which a pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer. Thirteen people were killed in the accident, according to media reports.
The dead were all occupants of the pickup truck, which belonged to a company and was taking the people to work in the city of Mexicali, the capital of the northwestern state of Baja California.
