At a meeting with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in his Moscow-based Novo Ogariovo residence, Putin highlighted energy as a fundamental field for bilateral cooperation.

We are nations with a great contribution to world energy supply; there is a growing demand and prices continue increasing, he added.

Putin also showed interest in ongoing transformations in Venezuela and Latin America. Russia has always been interested in these relations and we want to broaden them even more, he said.

He highlighted efforts carried out in the last few years to strengthen the legal base of the alliance between both parties.

We are set to diversify these links, he noted.

Most promising fields for cooperation include transportation, space race, the application of high technology and the technical-military sector, where Moscow is a reliable partner, said Putin.

Chavez congratulated Putin for his appointment as Prime Minister and appreciated Russia’s strength and perseverance in supporting Venezuela.

He said to have signed three agreements with President Dmitri Medvedev and urged Russia to step up efforts, leading to a larger presence in Venezuelan projects through firms like Gazprom and Lukoil.
