Los Angeles : India’s Sania Mirza began her campaign in the $600,000 East West Bank Classic tournament on a wining note, as she dispatched Czech qualifier Eva Hrdinova in straight sets here at Carson.
Sania, seeded 16th, beat Hrdinova 6-3, 6-4 at the hard court event in one hour and seven minutes.
She next meets the winner of the match between Ukranian Kateryna Bondarenko and Chinese Meng Yuan.
In doubles, Sania is paired with American Bethanie Mattek. The second seeded pair face American Vania King and Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia in opening round.
