Sangliana, a former Bangalore police commissioner, wrested the Bangalore North Lok Sabha seat from Congress stalwart and former railway minister C.K. Jaffer Sharieff in the 2004 polls.

“An old banner with his photo was set on fire but no other damage was caused to the office which was locked at that time,” deputy commissioner of police S. Ramesh said.

“About 60 people staged the demonstration for about 45 minutes. There was no one in the office. Additional security has been provided both at the office premises and his residence,” Kumar said.

“We have registered a non-cognisable offence but none has been arrested,” he said.

A team of seven police personnel headed by a sub-inspector has been posted at the office premises, Ramesh said.

Sangliana was still away in Delhi and was expected to return after two or three days, his family members said.

“There is no demonstration or any other agitation at the residence. We were told there was some protest outside his office,” a family member said declining to be identified.

“There are around 30 police personnel guarding the house,” the member said.

Sangliana was among the BJP MPs who defied the whip and voted in favour of the government.
