“Power brokers invested more than Rs.600 crores (Rs.6 billion) to save the already dying UPA government in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) by giving it oxygen to breathe for another six months,” BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said here Saturday.

Naqvi said the UPA government is supported by the “crutches of black money” and would face the BJP’s countrywide agitation – ‘Bhandaphod Andolan’ (Out with the truth agitation) led by L.K. Advani in Delhi and party president Rajnath Singh from Lucknow.

“The vote on confidence motion brought in parliament has clearly shown how the UPA adopted the most unwarranted and undemocratic principles to save their government,” Abbas said.

“The nexus between black money, power brokers and the UPA government has caused an irreparable dent to the nation’s democratic credentials and will add more to the miseries of the common man. We will go to the public with the government’s misdeeds,” Abbas added.

Earlier this week, Advani came down heavily on the government, saying its attempt to buy over opposition MPs in its desperation to stay in power had sullied the image of the Indian parliament.

The reference was to the dramatic display in parliament Tuesday of wads of currency by three BJP MPs who said Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and Congress leader Ahmed Patel had tried to bribe them. Amar Singh and Patel, however, have denied the charges.
