Initial tests on the hair carried out by Oxford Brookes University showed they did not match any of the known animals. University officials said they could belong to an as yet unidentified species of animal that many swear to have seen in the Himalayas or in the northeastern forests.

Now the scientists will put the hair through the DNA test, according to Newslite, a site which publishes weird news on the net.

M. Redmond of the primatology department at the university also said the hairs bear a “startling resemblance” to those collected by Everest conqueror, late Sir Edmund Hillary.

Some people claim to have seen the a black and grey ape-like animal which stands about 3m (nearly 10ft) tall in the West, South and East Garo hills in Meghalaya, India.
