Iran, Indonesia keen to expand ties

Tehran : Iran and Indonesia have underscored the need for further expansion of all-out relations between the two countries.

In a meeting held between Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and his Indonesian counterpart Hassan Wirajuda, the two ministers also called for promotion of cooperation among member states of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The meeting was held on the eve of the 15th NAM foreign ministerial meeting which opens on Tuesday.

The 118 member states, 15 observer members, and eight international and regional organisations will be attending the meeting.

Expressing his satisfaction over the current level of Tehran-Jakarta relations, Mottaki said the two countries’ leaders are determined to boost the existing ties.

He expressed the hope that Indonesia would continue with playing its effective role in promotion of the NAM.

On Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme, Mottaki lauded Jakarta’s logical stand on Iran’s nuclear programme.

Expressing his concern over the current global challenges, the Indonesian foreign minister said the movement plays a crucial role in countering those challenges.

He called for solidarity of the NAM member states, stressing that all-out cooperation would strengthen the unity of those countries.

Wirajuda also underscored the need for the agreements already inked by the two states to be materialised.
