ISAF soldier, several militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul : One ISAF soldier and several Taliban militants were killed in two separate engagements in southern Afghanistan.

A statement from ISAF headquarters in Kabul on Tuesday morning said that the ISAF soldier died from wounds after his foot patrol was attacked by insurgents in Nad Ali district of Helmand province.

Name and nationality of the soldier were not released for policy reason. A separate statement from the coalition forces’ Bagram base, located north of Kabul, said several militants were killed during a an operation targeting a Taliban leader in Ghazni province.

Coalition forces searched compounds in Gairo district on Monday. Militants, located inside a building and around other buildings, engaged the force with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades. Coalition forces responded with small-arms fire and air strikes, killing the militants and damaging a building.

During the search, coalition forces discovered arms and ammunitions which were destroyed after moving all residents to a safe location, said the statement.
