Dubai : Bahrain ruler King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Wednesday pardoned 225 prisoners ahead of the holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The king’s move came following a meeting he held with leading religious figures in the country, the state-run Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported. Eid-ul-Fitr is to be celebrated in October this year.
According to the report, the prisoners who have been pardoned were not involved in criminal acts that harm the security of the nation and its citizens.
King Hamad has issued orders to adopt appropriate procedures to release the prisoners.
“This noble gesture emanated from his majesty’s keenness in boosting national unity considering Bahrain as a strong family and also to protect the future of Bahrainis and give them another chance to participate in the development of their nation,” the BNA report stated.
It said this act was also a reflection of the Gulf nation’s message of democracy and openness to the whole world.
