After the TV channel informed the police about the e-mail which said “important areas of the city like Park Street, Salt Lake, Nicco Park and landmark buildings like High Court and the state assembly would be blown off by 10.30 pm,” the bomb squad personnel swung into an intensive search operation.

No explosives have been recovered by the police during the search operation, police sources said.

The cyber crime department of Kolkata Police, meanwhile, traced the e-mail sent under the ID [email protected], to a cyber cafe in Salt Lake.

The owner of the cyber cafe Kaushik Basu has been arrested for interrogation, Kolkata Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty told reporters.

The Police Commissioner requested the people not to panic and requested them to inform the police if they found any unclaimed or suspicious object.

The police are on a high alert and security for the High Court and the state assembly has been beefed up, Chakraborty said.
