Phnom Penh : With the preliminary figures still unknown in last Sunday’s Cambodian elections Hu Sen and its ruling People’s Party (PPC) proclaimed an absolute victory.
If results are confirmed the re-elected Cambodian Prime Minister will have another five years term of office but this time alone, to leave its alliance with the monarchist Funcinpec behind, who has been made to look bad in the eyes of the public after internal scandals within the rangs of its membership.
We won the election, said the PPC spokesman Khieu Kanharith to add in front of its supporters who assured two third that is 91 of the 123 seats in Parliament.
Electoral officials noted that in a partial cut the PCC had assured 62 percent of the votes issued in five of the 24 provinces of the country.
The official result will be announced in August 9, he added.
Hu Sen victory was expected but analysts have said that it seemed as if he had wiped with its main rivals out, Sam Rainsy’s party, his chief namesake, and Funcinpec himself.
