Raipur : P. Joy Oommen was Thursday appointed the new chief secretary of Chhattisgarh state.
A 1977 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official, Oommen supersedes chairman of Professional Examination Board and Administrative Academy B.K.S. Ray, a 1972 batch IAS officer, to the top bureaucratic post of the state.
The new chief secretary will hold the office till July 2012.
The announcement was made after a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Raman Singh at his official residence.
Oommen has been credited for the acceleration of industrial growth in Chhattisgarh in his earlier assignment as additional chief secretary for industry.
Oommen succeeds Shivraj Singh, who retired from the service Thursday.
