Mumbai : Indian equity markets extended their losses by early afternoon Thursday. Banking, FMCG and auto stocks were under selling pressure though there was buying interest in metal stocks.
At 1:00 p.m., the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, was at 14,189.14, down 98.67 points or 0.69 percent from its closing figure Wednesday. It had touched a low of 14,161.76 points earlier Thursday.
At the same time the broader based S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was down by 15.05 points or 0.35 percent at 4,298.50.
The market breadth was negative. On BSE 1,165 shares advanced, 1,192 declined and 80 remained unchanged.
