Presiding over the programme, former Chief Justice of India A.M. Ahmadi said, “Judiciary alone is not responsible for all existing evils in the judicial system and the issue of inadequate salary of judges is one of the reasons behind the corruption in judiciary.” He further said lawyers are the channel of corruption among judges.

Comparing the Indian judicial system with that of the U.S., Justice Ahmadi said, “in India there are 12.5 judges per million people and out of 100 cases that are brought to the court, more than 75% go for trial.” In the U.S., on the other hand, there are 110 judges per million people and merely 5 to 7% of cases go for trail.” In India 2.5 crore cases are pending in the court.

Chief guest of the programme, Justice Rajender Sachar said that the judiciary has both good and bad sides and we have to fight against the evils. “Those who have not suffered must fight against injustice when it is done with others because injustice with a person is like injustice to all,” he asserted.

Advocates Prashant Bhoshan and Yusuf Machala who is also president of APCR expressed their views on the topic.
