Abu Dhabi : Syrian President Bashar Al Assad has arrived in United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a three-day official visit to the Arab federation with the aim of cementing inter-Arab solidarity, WAM news agency reported Monday.
UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and important members of the government received the Syrian dignitary on his arrival at the airport Sunday.
The Syrian president during his visit to UAE and Kuwait would seek to build an Arab consensus on the implementation of a UN resolution to end the Middle East crisis.
During his UAE visit which has been elaborately highlighted by the Syrian press, Al Assad, the current chairman of the Arab League, will work to cement inter-Arab ties with a view to unifying ranks and building common consensus on major Arab issues, WAM said quoting official Syrian news agency SANA.
“More importantly, the two countries share a common desire to foster bilateral cooperation on political, economic, social and cultural spheres, using the strong support and commitment of presidents of both nations,” SANA wrote in an editorial ahead of the Syrian president’s visit to the Arab federation.
The Syrian news agency cited the participation of the UAE in the recent Arab Summit in Damascus as a sign of its commitment to Arab unity.
“The UAE under the leadership of (President) Sheikh Khalifa has been a strong proponent of Syrian rights over its occupied lands. The two countries have also been noted for their forthright vision on various issues,” said the agency.
It further added that UAE-Syrian relations will see an even greater vibrancy within the next few years as top officials continue to exchange high-level contacts and visits as conducive investment climate continues to be created in both countries.
