Tourist bus crushes woman to death in Delhi

New Delhi : An auto-rickshaw passenger was killed and the driver critically injured when a tourist bus rammed into the vehicle in south Delhi Tuesday, police said.

The bus, of west Delhi-based VIP travels, was coming from Sangam Cinema when the driver lost control and jumped the divider near Sector-7 of R.K. Puram, police said, adding that the bus first hit a black Honda City car that was coming from the opposite end and then rammed into the auto-rickshaw.

Harbans Kaur, 45, who was travelling in the auto rickshaw, and its driver Sadab, 19, came under the wheels of the bus.

“The bus was coming at high speed. It seemed that driver had dozed off and lost control of the bus,” Gokul, who runs a telephone kiosk near the accident site, told IANS.

Police said the injured were rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared Kaur, a resident of Vasant Kunj, as brought dead. Sadab was said to be battling for his life.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Kumar Gyanesh said bus driver is absconding. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered at the R.K. Puram police station.

Meanwhile, in a hit and run case, a youth riding a motorbike, was run over by a speeding truck in east Delhi early Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Sanjay, died on the spot, while the pillion rider, Sanjeev, is said to be in serious condition at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.
