Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi Friday ticked off DMK treasurer and Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasamy at a wedding — over family planning.
“Veerasamy has been advising all newlyweds to limit their offspring to one. Additional family members mean more soldiers to fight in battles, a method perfected by the Chinese government, something Veerasamy should remember,” Karunanidhi said in a speech at a DMK functionary’s family wedding.
Similar snide remarks and eventual political isolation had led another DMK veteran, Vaiko, to form the MDMK in 1994.
Considered a strong supporter of the chief minister’s son and political heir apparent M.K. Stalin, Veerasamy is said to have recently developed close links to M.K. Azhagiri, Karunanidhi’s elder son who operates from Madurai.
