Nepali major parties hold separate consultations on power-sharing

Kathmandu : Nepal’s three major political parties in the Constituent Assembly are due to hold separate consultations on Saturday to discuss contentious political issues including power-sharing in the next government, procedure for electing President and Prime Minister and statute amendment.

The Nepali Congress (NC) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)(CPN-M) are scheduled to hold consultation after 4 p.m. (1015 GMT) on Saturday, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said.

Poudel also said that they will also hold informal discussions with the leaders of the Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) before consulting with the CPN-M leaders.

The CPN-UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari said that consultations in the last two days with the CPN-M regarding the appointment procedure of President and Prime Minister were positive and the CPN-M showed flexibility.

According to Adhikari, the CPN-M is likely to agree on the proposal floated by the other parties to appoint the President andthe Prime Minister through a simple majority.
