UNMIK spokesman Aleksandr Ivanko said in remarks broadcast by Pristina Radio, excerpts of which were monitored here, said the international mission would pursue the tasks in the region till the UN chief takes a final decision to determine its destiny.

The UN force was originally set to conclude its mission in the region on the 15th of this month, a date that had been set to effect a constitution for the region.

Ivanko said the local government would take over administrative tasks throughout the region, expressing understanding of the Kosovars’ aspiration to enforce their sovereignty on their homeland.

Kosovo has been generally adminstered by the international force since the end of a fierce fighting between Serbs and ethnic Albanians in 1999.
