Bush is meeting with the EU Top Representative for Foreign Policy and Common Security, Javier Solana, European Commission Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa, host of the forum.

In the framework of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Washington calls for higher participation of European soldiers in Afghanistan, a nation it attacked in October 2001 with the alleged goal of arresting Osama bin Laden.

Also, the White House chief wants more European pressure on Iran to force it to abandon its atomic program, accusing it of trying to make nuclear arms, with Teheran denying it and defending its right to the pacific use that energy.

The two sides will also coordinate support for the independence of the Serbian province of Kosovo, unilaterally proclaimed on February 17, despite Belgrade”s opposition.

Instead, the EU will urge the US to increase efforts to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and debate the status of the Georgian separatist region of Abkhazia, which demands the recognition of its right to sovereignty, like Kosovo.

The US president”s European tour will continue in Germany, and will also comprise Italy, France, and Great Britain.
