Climate Change Mainly Affects Women

Paris : On July 19 the UNESCO headquarters will be focused on Women”s vulnerability to climate change and the measures to alleviate consequences, reported the organization.

The Fourth Forum on Equality will center its debates on equality between sexes, said the note.

According to the text, women are less informed than men and few are associated to decision-making, mainly in traditional societies, which are more affected by natural catastrophes.

It mentioned as example that in Aceh, Indonesia, devastated by a Tsunami in December 2004, over 75 percent of the mortal victims were women.

Facing floods, drought or storms caused by climate changes women are a key factor to provide food for their family, so pressure on them is higher, added the text.
