Over 100 killed in Sudan plane crash

Khartoum/Nairobi : More than 100 people were killed when an airliner carrying more than 200 passengers burst into flames upon landing in the Sudanese capital Khartoum late Tuesday.

Sudan TV said that the plane veered off the runway and caught fire while landing in bad weather.

Television pictures showed firefighters desperately battling to contain the flames as the airliner blazed by the side of the runway.

The Sudan Tribune said on its website that more than 100 passengers died in the burning wreckage of the plane, which is believed to have been operated by Sudan Airways.

The newspaper said the plane, which was coming from Amman, Jordan, was carrying 203 passengers and 14 crew.

Reports suggested that 13 of the 14 crew members survived the crash.
