Iran, Syria to establish joint transformer plant

Tehran : An Iranian delegation has held talks with Syrian Minister of Electricity Ahmad Khalid al-Ali on issues of mutual interest including cooperation in the fields of water, electricity and energy.

The delegation also inked an agreement for construction of a joint Iran-Syria transformer plant in the Hessia region in Syria.

As per the agreement, two Iranian companies including Sanir and Iran Transfo and three private and governmental Syrian companies will cooperate for the establishment of the joint plant in an area covering 120,000 square metres.

In the first phase, the factory will produce 4,400 oil transformers and in the other phases power transformers, equipment and parts will be manufactured.

The Iranian companies are currently negotiating with the Venezuelan officials for construction of a similar plant there.
