By Xinhua,
Gaza : Hamas on Sunday said it hopes Israeli responses to an Egyptian-offered ceasefire will be positive.
“We hope that all things contribute to lifting the siege and ending the aggression on our people,” Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoom said today.
Barhoom added that representatives from the Islamic movement will meet Egyptian Intelligence Chief Omar Suleiman to officially receive Israel’s stance.
Two of Gaza-based Hamas leaders headed for Cairo on Saturday to join other exiled leaders who came from Damascus to get the answer.
Egypt proposed the ceasefire a few months ago to decrease Israeli attacks and to lift the closure that Israel imposed on Gaza Strip since a year ago as a result of Hamas’ violent takeover of the territory.
Hamas accepted the offer but asked for more clarifications from Israel which linked the lifting of the blockade with the release of a soldier Hamas holds hostage since nearly two years. Hamas insists that the captive Corporal Gilad Shalit will only be freed under a prisoner exchange deal.
