Shaju told IANS that he has submitted the complaint on two grounds after Sudhakaran used derogatory language about him and his caste at a public meeting near Pandalam.

“First I have asked for police security because the minister has said that I should be beaten up with a broom. Then he said that I should not be allowed to enter temples. This is a clear violation of the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act. His speech has been reported by the media. I am surprised that untouchability still prevails and a minister has said this,” said Shaju.

Shaju, belongs to the Janadiypathiya Samrakshana Samithi party, an ally of the Congress-led United Democratic Front and has been a two time legislator from Pandalam (constituency reserved for scheduled castes).

“Who does not know that I belong to the scheduled caste community. The minister should be arrested under the act,” said Shaju.
