Antanarivo : The success rate in the nation-wide examination for primary school students on Monday last week decreased, according to the results published on Sunday.
The success rate went down to 78 percent from that of 82.99 percent last year, l’Express, a French-Language daily, reported on Monday.
Official statistics showed that 26,158 students went for examination in the capital city this year.
The decline of 5 percent was due to mathematics test in which some students couldn’t find the answers.
The examination was the single way for 448,340 students in primary school over the Indian Ocean island country of Madagascar to obtain certificates from their primary Schools to enter into the college.
The students competed at 7 subjects including mathematics, natural sciences, history, civic education, Malagasy, French and geography.
In Madagascar, national education was divided into 4 steps, namely primary school, high school, the college and university.
College examination for this year is scheduled on July 7 while the high school enrollment examination will start on July 28.
According to the innovation of the law on the general orientation of the education system, which had just been adopted by the lower house of the parliament, the National Assembly, on June 19, the primary school would last in 7 years, the college, 3 years and the high school, 2 years.
The objective of the reforms was to adapt the knowledge gained from basic education to the current realities of the country and to train future citizens to integrate into the workplace at the end of their school and university.
