Nablus : Israeli forces have killed two Palestinians in the West Bank city of Nablus. Israel’s army said it had killed a senior member of the Islamic Jihad group in the strike but could not confirm the second reported death.
Tarek Jumea Abu Ali, 24, was wanted by Israel for instigating attacks, Israel’s army said. Islamic Jihad had warned attacks on its militants in the West Bank could jeopardize a truce in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army said the fighter died in an exchange of fire, and that explosive devices and weapons were found in his flat. But neighbors say the two men died in an explosion. The violence came as the ceasefire between Israel and the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip went into its sixth day. While the West Bank is not covered by this truce, the reaction of militant groups in Gaza to Israeli operations in the West Bank is expected to test the ceasefire.
