The ADB made the remarks when a delegation of ADB board of directors met with Nepali government officials and politicians during a six-day visit to Nepal, which ended Sunday.

During their stay in Nepal, they held meetings with Ministers of Finance and Physical Planning and Works and other senior government officials and met Chairman Prachanda and other senior leaders of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) which is to lead the formation of the new government after Constituent Assembly elections, to get an idea about the country’s development prospects and challenges as well as to explore opportunities for closer cooperation.

They also held consultations with civil society activists, the private sector and other development partners and visited various ADB assisted projects in Nepali capital Kathmandu and Pokhara in the west, among others, and interacted with project beneficiaries.

The delegation comprised of Executive Directors Sebastian Paust, Md. Saad Hashim, Kyung-Hoh Kim and Executive directors Patrick Bandt, Paul Curry and Dereck Rooken-Smith.

This group is on a tour to three countries in South Asia — Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
