President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday night that the International Criminal Court is responsible to make case against Tel Aviv leaders for committing war crimes against the people living in Gaza Strip.

As the Security Council was assembling reports came in that Israel continues with air strike on Gaza Strip residential areas killing at least 36 civilians and wounding 100.

Palestine Authority chief Mahmud Abbas said the Israeli raids were “more than a holocaust”.

He was apparently alluding to a statement made on Friday by Israel’s deputy defence minister Matan Vilnai, who said Palestinians risked a “shoah” – the Hebrew word for a big disaster as well as for the Nazi Holocaust.

The Israeli raids began after a rocket fired by Hamas killed an Israeli student in the southern town of Sderot, the first such death in nine months, on Wednesday.

More than 80 Palestinians have been killed since then in Israeli air raids.

Doctors said at least eight were children and up to 16 were Hamas government police force.

More than 150 Palestinians – and seven Israelis – have been injured.

Palestinian leaders have called for international protection.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned Israel for “excessive and disproportionate” use of force against civilians living in the Gaza Strip.
