Newspapers have also become the medium of information infused into the daily lives of Malaysians, he said when launching the i-Akhbar wall newspaper of the Information Department at the Sungai Petani Municipal Council square Sunday night.

The i-Akhbar comprises newspaper clippings displayed on boards at strategic places nationwide in the effort to disseminate information and current news to the people.

Zainuddin said the i-Akhbar was also aimed at inculcating the reading habit in the people and creating a knowledgeable society with a first-class mentality.

Earlier, Director-General of Information Abdullah Morad, in his speech, said 131 i-Akhbar boards had been set up at strategic locations nationwide, including at airports, bus and taxi stations, hospitals and business premises.

He said proactive Information Department officers had been appointed as coordinators to ensure that the latest information was displayed on the i-Akhbar boards.

“The i-Akhbar boards will be set up in every district nationwide. The newspaper clippings will carry political, economic, social and cultural news,” he said.
