A Canadian Soldier Dies in Afghanistan

Kabul : A Canadian soldier of NATO troops died of a blast in Kandahar conflictive southern province, reported military sources in that capital.

The explosive detonated when the 25-year old soldier was traveling in an armored vehicle with a convoy of supply to a military base, noted spokesman of the North Atlantic War Organization (NATO).

This death amounts to 79 Canadian soldiers killed in this Central Asian country since 2002, most of the almost 2,500 Canadian soldiers have been deployed in Kandahar province.

In another incident the Defense Ministry’s spokesmen reported that at lease 20 alleged rebels died or were wounded during clashes with troops from the International Assistance Security Force (ISAF) in Helmand southern convulsive province.

In addition, Afghanistan rejected an evaluation of US intelligence, because it was lacking of ground, saying that the Afghan government controls only 30 percent of the country while rebels controls 10 percent, the rest 40 percent is in the hands of tribal groups.
