Admiral Mullen, who met with Musharraf in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, expressed his appreciation for the Pakistani army’s efforts in fighting against terrorism.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mullen also held talks with Pakistani army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. But no details are available.

Mullen, the highest-ranking military officer in the United States, arrived here on Monday for his second visit to Pakistan in less than one month. Mullen visited Pakistan in early February.

The visit will focus on assistance to the Frontier Corps, a paramilitary force of about 85,000 that is recruited from tribal areas along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, said Pakistan’s daily The Nation.

The U.S. Central Command is reportedly reviewing a plan to send about 100 troops to help train the Frontier Corps, which is described as the vanguard in fighting al-Qaida and Taliban militants in the tribal areas along the border.
