Manju, 16, the schoolgirl, was found hanging from the ceiling of her room in her Jahangirpuri home in north-west Delhi late Wednesday by her father Ram Lal, who is engaged in construction work. No suicide note was found.

She was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

The police said the girl was reportedly suffering from depression after she scored low marks in the school examination.

“Her father didn’t want her to continue studies after class 10. He said his daughter had told him that she was worried as she had not done well in the examination on Tuesday,” a police official said.

She was the eldest of two sisters and two brothers.

Dolly, first-year BA student of the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, was also found hanging from the ceiling in a room of her house in Sector-3, Rohini, Thursday afternoon.

She was taken a hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Her body has been sent for post-mortem examination. No suicide note was recovered in this case either.

“The girl failed in her first year examination, which apparently led to depression,” a senior police officer said.

Tuesday, a 16-year old schoolgirl had killed herself with her father’s licensed revolver.

Tanvi, a class 11 student of the DAV school, Pitampura in west Delhi, committed suicide two days before her end-of-term examination results were to be announced.

In yet another incident on Thursday, Sadhna Singh, 23, who was married to Kaushal in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly took her life by hanging herself at her parents’ home in Karawal Nagar.

The police are investigating.
