Iran, Syria call for expansion of mutual cooperation

Damascus : The Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria held their joint Economic Commission meeting on Thursday where the two sides called for expansion of political, economic, cultural, regional and international cooperation.

Iran’s First Vice President Parviz Davoudi led the Iranian delegation at the joint meeting which kicked off on Wednesday.

Davoudi and Syrian Premier Muhammad Naji al-Utri co-chaired the meeting where the two sides signed nine memoranda of understanding (MoU) on expansion of cooperation between the two countries.

Iran’s first vice president heading a high ranking political and economic delegation arrived in Damascus for talks with the country’s high ranking officials on issues of mutual interests.

Certain countries cannot tolerate to see existing good ties between Iran and Syria and that is why they try to sow seeds of discord between the two countries, Davoudi said.

Volume of trade exchange between Iran and Syria stood at dlrs 200 million last year.

Iranian companies are now implementing projects in Syria valued at over dlrs one billion.
