Tokyo : The G8 summit to be held in Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido in July will be the most inclusive forum of its kind so far, gathering participants from 23 countries.
The agenda and the list of participants were finalized late on Wednesday during the first meeting of an advisory committee in Tokyo.
The upcoming forum of the Group of Eight leading industrialized nations will focus on climate change, and sustainable development in African states.
During the summit, Japan is likely to press on with its initiative to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2050, a proposal made last year at the G8 summit in Heiligendamm, Germany.
Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda could visit Russia in early May as part of his European tour ahead of the G8 summit.
