Colombo : A legislator representing the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) was killed in northern Sri Lanka Thursday afternoon, military and party officials said.
K. Sivanesan, legislator from the northern Jaffna peninsula, died following a Claymore mine attack targeting his vehicle in the rebel-held Wanni area, TNA officials said.
Officials from the Media Centre for National Security said they had the report of the incident, but not the details.
The TNA, having 22 legislators in Sri Lanka’s 225-member parliament, is considered close to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
