A police source told KUNA a car loaded with explosives and driven by the attacker targeted Al-Waqqas police station in Ras Al-Jadda district in Mosul.

Mosul witnessed widespread violence in the past few days and the Iraqi government sent more army forces to crack down on militants and implement a security plan.

In another attack Friday in Mosul, an Iraqi civilian was killed and at least 15 others were injured in two bomb explosions.

A police source said a bomb exploded in front of a policeman’s home in Al-Nabi Shait district and as people gathered at the incident’s place, another bomb exploded killing one, injuring 14, and damaging the home.

All the injured are civilians, he added.

Meanwhile, the source said that Um Al-Rabeain police arrested 11 wanted people during a search operation in Al-Tanak district west of Mosul Thursday evening.

A weapon cache was found in the home of one of the arrested, he pointed out.

In related development, US-led coalition forces killed eight terrorists and detained 17 suspected terrorists Thursday during operations to disrupt al-Qaeda networks operating in central Iraq, a US military statement said on Friday.

The statement said coalition forces conducted an operation targeting the alleged al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) leader in the Kanan village, northeast of Samarra near the Hamrin Mountains today.

The targeted individual is reportedly associated with numerous AQI members in the region, the statement added.

During the operation, the ground force called for the occupants of several target buildings to come out and observed them attempting to engage the ground force, the statement said.

The statement noted coalition forces responded to the threat, killing four terrorists, including the wanted individual.

The ground force secured the building where the wanted individual was located and discovered a cache of Urea, a common precursor for homemade explosive materials, the statement explained.

During two additional coordinated operations in Samarra, coalition forces detained three suspected terrorists, including two wanted individuals.
