New Delhi : Amit Kumar, the alleged kingpin of the multi-million kidney racket, was Friday brought to the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) headquarters in the capital for a lie-detector test, an agency official said.
Amit Kumar, who was in the custody of the Rajasthan police for removal of a kidney of a villager in that state, was brought to the CBI headquarters Friday where his polygraph test took place, a senior CBI official told IANS.
“The test was being conducted to verify and reconfirm certain details,” he said.
During the test, a polygraph instrument collects physiological data of the human body, including sweat gland activity, blood pressure and heartbeat, as questions are put to the person.
“Doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have also reached CBI headquarters to conduct the test,” the official added.
The results of polygraph test, also known as lie-detector test, are not admissible as evidence in the court of law in India. But polygraph test is a potent tool often used by the investigators to corroborate evidence already obtained through investigation.
Investigations have revealed that at the heart of the illegal kidney transplant racket was Amit Kumar, who allegedly carried out hundreds of kidney transplants along with fellow doctors that included his brother Jeewan Raut, and over the years cashed in on the huge demand-supply gap for the vital organ.
