Kuwait : Kuwaiti women have accomplished many achievements that proved their abilities but still face some challenges in their role for service of the homeland and the country’s people.
Political activists told KUNA in separate interviews on the occasion of the international women day on Saturday that Kuwaiti women need more opportunities and the chance to contribute in decision making.
Legal expert and instructor at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) Dr. Suad Al-Tararwa said that Kuwaiti women proved themselves despite the economic, social, and political challenges they faced.
Women should realize the challenges facing them and must unite their efforts to improve their political, economic, and legal awareness, she stressed.
She highlighted that the Kuwaiti constitution stressed the importance of the women’s role in economic and social development.
Assistant instructor at Kuwait University’s College of Education Dr. Salwa Al-Jassar said that Kuwaiti women play a major role in education, culture, economic, political, and business fields and are the partners of men in development.
Al-Jassar called for putting a plan to develop affective female leaders that are able to participate in taking political, social, economic, educational, and media decisions.
Political activist Aisha Al-Rshaid said that women proved their abilities to give in different fields, but added that Kuwaiti women get a few senior posts compared to other Gulf countries.
There is only one female minister in Kuwait, four in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and more than one in Oman, she pointed out.
Meanwhile, the shooting sport tournament of the first Gulf women’s championship will kick off at all Olympic shooting ranges here on Saturday.
Kuwait will be represented by Hothama al-Baghli, Mai Razouqi and Awatef al-Qallaf in team events and Ghazlan al-Indi, Dalal al-Sharhan and Altaf al-Qallaf in individual tournaments.
The two-day shooting sport tournament is expected to witness a fierce competition among the participants due to their mostly similar shooting levels.
