Kolkata : The British Council along with England’s Premier League will train 40 young coaches from east India to enhance their football coaching and as well as English language skills for better communication with players.
The British Council and the Premier League, the English professional league for football clubs, are launching Premier Skills, an innovative development programme for young Indian coaches, here Monday.
“The project will train 40 young coaches from east India to enhance their football coaching skills and also equip them with English language communication skills essential to cascade the coaching skills to a wider community,” a British Council official here said.
Premier Skills in India is being run in association with the All Indian Football Federation (AIFF), Indian Football Association (IFA-West Bengal) and Sport Authority of India’s (SAI) Netaji Subhas Eastern Zone Centre.
ESPN STAR Sports, the Premier League’s television rights holder, and Nike are also supporting the event.
Two former Premier League stars, Warren Barton and Robbie Earle, will conduct the coaching.
Both Barton, who played nearly 400 games for Wimbledon, Newcastle United and Derby County, and former Wimbledon and Jamaican international midfielder Earle are UEFA-qualified coaches and they will hold a series of coaching and skill sessions for 40 local youth.
